We are seeking a qualified structural engineer to join our team.
Position Overview:
The Licensed Structural Engineer will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and reviewing residential wood frame structures. This role requires a strong technical background, attention to detail, and collaboration with architects, contractors, and clients to deliver successful projects.
This role will act as “Engineering Ambassador” for B.PUBLIC, providing direct services to our design clients and coordinating with outside engineers and architects on B2B projects.
Qualifications:
A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on light wood frame residential construction.
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software
Strong knowledge of local building codes, standards, and regulations.
Excellent communication and project management skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
A passion and Deep interest in sustainability is crucial
Excellent client communications (written, spoken, and emotional intelligence) required
We are a collaborative and creative company seeking a “team player” to join our staff
Proven experience in thoughtful engagement with clients, builders, outside architects, etc., on a wide range of project sizes and locations
Able to balance “by the book” engineering with common sense

Projects
Manage structural fee proposals & fee tracking
Develop structural sheets & calculations for all B2C & B2B projects; produce sheets for every major project milestone (SD Set, DD / Bid Set / Permit Set / CD Set)
shop drawing review on all B2C & B2B projects; support shop drawing review for projects utilizing 3rd party manufacturers
Manage permitting & compliance issues with a variety of AHJ’s
Spearhead all structural coordination (B2C & B2B)
Perform early project reviews to discuss/troubleshoot potential engineering issues.
Travel to perform site observations/inspections as required (or perform remotely)
Confidently engage with GCs on critical issues like foundation detailing
Tech/R&D
Provide engineering support on R&D projects/product improvement
Develop a suite of Hybrid Timber / Mass Timber standard details with architectural staff
Research improvements, best practices, etc.
Represent the company at structural engineering conferences and professional networking events.
Present and collaborate on technical onboardings and B.PUBLIC client-facing training
Strong interest in emerging structural connectors/materials
Awareness of prefab and off-site innovations and market landscape
Develop engineering guide/standards for B.PUBLIC
Develop & maintain panel engineering standards, technical documents, tools, etc.
Experience
Prefab / panelized/modular
Extensive work with wood framing and Simpson Strong-tie connectors
Hands-on building experience or construction
Experience with Hybrid Timber / Mass Timber a huge plus

Familiarity with Passive House
Must have significant Revit experience (All work for B.PUBLIC is produced solely in Revit); Bluebeam is also a required software skill

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a new position within B.PUBLIC and the responsibilities may increase depending on the experience and expertise of the candidate.
This role will serve existing and grow the building partners and professional network.
This position will include outreach, information, preparation, builder orientation/on-boarding, training, representing the company to professional organizations and construction networking, and incoming technical assistance to builders, installers, and owners. This position will coordinate consultants and tasks, contribute to the design process, research materials, communicate with suppliers, coordinate projects and track progress for internal and external project teams. This position provides an important link between the office and the field. An ability to perform new client site assessments, develop and maintain builder relationships, and perform construction administration is critical to the role. The position will visit construction sites and requires in-depth knowledge and technical communication skills to address progress and general quality of the work across the building trades. Maintaining database, up-to-date bidding documents, tracking delivery, and coordinating installations.
